The multidisciplinary field workshop and school «Paleosites of the Dnieper Area in the context of the development of local town museums» was organized under a grant from the American Paleontological Society. The aim of the workshop was to bring together a group of experts in Cenozoic позвоночных (marine Paleogene and Neogene vertebrates, Quaternary large mammals, Quaternary small mammals) and PhD students on the one hand, and the staff of the local museums, on the other, to create a forum where specialists may discuss palaeontology-related problems, share their expertise, and facilitate knowledge and data exchange. The activities of the workshop include the survey of paleontological resources of the Dnieper Left Bank Area, identification and stratigraphical and paleoecological interpretation of specimens from the museum collections, field training for the museum staff members, lecturing for participants of their paleontological circles. In some cases, the successful experience of the
paleontological work of several Ukrainian and West European local town museums have been considered and recommendations have been proposed. The main of these recommendations are regular paleontological monitoring of exposures, digitalization of museum collections, enlightening of amateurs-palaeontologists regarding the high importance of paleoDNA and paleoanthropological data, more intensive collaboration with the mining sector. Regular (for example, biannual) field schools would be helpful for the further development of the paleontological work in museums of the Dnieper area.
