he article deals with representation of the concepts ‘white’ and ‘black’, which are distinguished among the colors of spectrum, they got the value of cultural symbols as extreme members of axiological opposition with the meaning of positive or negative estimation, based on the works of Horace, Ovid and Vergil. The research shows that the meaning which authors of poetry inlay in lexemes white and black is wider and more various than the meanings are fixed in dictionaries. It is explained both the context partners of the mentioned lexemes and including into the mentioned concepts components with meaning, that are conditioned by individual perception of their native speakers. Статтю присвячено дослідженню репрезентації концептів „білий” і „чорний”, які набули значення культурних символів як крайні члени аксіологічної опозиції зі значенням позитивної чи негативної оцінки, на матеріалі творів Горація, Овідія та Вергілія. Проведене дослідження показує, що значення, які автори поезії вкладають у лексеми білий та чорний є ширшим і різноманітнішим, ніж ті значення, які фіксуються у словниках. Це пояснюється як контекстними партнерами вказаних лексем, так і входженням до складу вказаних концептів компонентів значення, які обумовлені індивідуальним сприйняттям їх носіями мови.
