Стаття присвячена розгляду особливого типу переосмислення традиційного сюжету – емблематичного функціонування. Структурний аналіз роману Дж. «Улісс» Джойса дозволяє говорити про новий вид символічного функціонування «Одіссеї» – «духовної одіссеї», яка полягає в зміщенні оповідного акценту з повернення Одіссея на його подорож. Для ірландського романіста домінуючою рисою роману є метафізична «подорож» героя, що веде до духовного возз'єднання з «сином». Article is devoted to the consideration of a special kind of reconsideration of a traditional plot – emblematic functioning. The structural analysis of novel by J. Joyce «Ulysses» allows to speak about a new kind of emblematic functioning of«Odyssey» – «spiritual odyssey» which consists in transferring narrative accent from returning of Odyssey to his wandering. For the Irish novelist the dominant of the novel is the hero metaphysical «wandering» conducting to his spiritual reunion with the «son».
