The work consists of the introduction, three chapters, the conclusion and the list of the referenced sources (68) The first section outlines the literary understanding and functioning of comics as a cultural phenomenon, outlines the functions of mass literature, which correlates with the definition of the culture of comics. The history of comicculture formation in the world and in Ukraine is considered. The manifestations of multimodal connections in comics are also outlined. The second chapter analyzes the graphic novel by Mihai Tymoshenko and Cyril Horiszny" A hero in spite of himself" as a comic-adaptation of the eponymous novel by Ivan Franko. In conclusion, the significance of the phenomenon of comic-adaptation in the literary context and the context of reception is outlined. The third section considers the issue of comics as a didactic material and the prospects for the introduction of comics as a phenomenon in the school curriculum in literature. Conclusions are drawn on the effectiveness of comix during education, as well as the feasibility of introducing graphic literature in the school system.
